Baja to Bering

A 40-year Journey of Discovery

Follow Doc and Ceci White as they plan their voyages, in multiple legs, from La Paz, Baja California, to the Bering Sea, Alaska. In this short film, we learn a bit about Doc White’s background as a Swift Boat skipper in Vietnam, a USN fighter pilot, commercial airline pilot, and captain and builder of his research vessel R/V Mystique. We learn a few surprising details about his wife, Ceci, originally a “cowgirl” from Arizona, turned avid diver, photographer and co-captain of Mystique, where they’ve spent the majority of their married life at sea. There is more to the story in their book: Baja to Bering A 40-Year Journey of Discovery, where Doc, Ceci & Neva explain their motive for sharing books and videos of their ocean journeys.

— If you learn about and come to love animals, ancient lands, marine life, the Ocean; you will want to help protect and preserve our most precious natural resources.

Swift Pacific Adventure

Doc and Ceci White set out on another Ocean Magic voyage aboard Beneteau’s Swift Trawler 47, accompanied by the film crew—Gage Hingeley and Julian Clark, documenting their journey along the coastal Pacific, delivering the newly launched yacht from San Francisco to San Diego.

But the sea had other plans. Unfavorable weather conditions, high winds and seas, prevented the team from achieving their original goal of diving in the waters of the offshore islands, as they headed south. Instead, they pulled in for a respite in Monterey Bay to visit the famous Monterey Bay Aquarium. Then they continued their journey south, with a brief dive off Catalina Island. The shortened adventure reminds us how, at sea, conditions can change in an instant and we must adapt accordingly.

Doc’s years—either in the air, on the sea, or diving under the sea—always informs his decisions.
